The Pacific is out on DVD on November 1 from the usual suppliers.
Apologies to those who may have read this before, but a while back, I turned round in the queue at the M4 Reading Services paying for petrol and who was 2 behind me but Damian Lewis (Lt. Winters).
As a lover of BOBR, I became tongue-tied.
Outside, I waited for him (like a stalker/groupie) and as he emerged I said 'Lt. Winters, isn't it?' He paused briefly and then smiled before rushing off to his car.
('When its cold at night, I turn and say to my wife, I'm just glad I'm not in Bastogne')
Also, at a tennis camp I attended regularly in Texas, I met a dentist who had been in the military. We got talking about BOBR. Living in Philadelphia, he then said that one of his patients was a man in his 80's featured in the book/series.
Henry Winters.
('Did you know any heroes, Grandpa? No son, but I fought with a few')
I prefer to say 'who's crapped in my foxhole' when I'm in that situation
James McAvoy also has a small but significant part in one episode... Tom Hardy as well.
I watch this once a year. So highly recommended.
This. Also, episodes 4 and 7 ... some of the best drama I've ever seen.
Regarding The Pacific, I think it was inevitable that comparisons would be made - and I've read/seen a lot of them. I thought The Pacific was stunning. It took me a couple of episodes to get in there but once I did, I was willing the next episode to come around!
Wonderful series - we also have the box set and the interviews with the real Easy Company make me cry every time. I'm not a big fan of war films/programs but this was superb all the way through - not a weak moment never mind episode.
Every single second of every minute is mind-blowing. Episode 10 "Why We Fight" is always guaranteed to reduce the people in our house to blubbering wrecks.
Arguably the greatest factual drama series ever made, a true masterpiece.
Terrific series. We have watched our box set series many times since seeing it first on TV in weekly episodes. Recently we updated to the Blu Ray version. We watch it 2/3 times a year at least.
I always blubber at Episode 10 too.
OP please buy it, I am positive you will be gripped by it.
It is every bit as good as everyone is saying. Fantastic television series.
