Why is Abraham Lincoln thought of as a good president?

He had one of the lowest approval ratings ever..
Will Bush be honored in a couple hundred years for keeping us safe from terrorism even though he is hated now?
Link, be quiet. I would gladly debate you but that is not really what my question is about.

The dislike of Lincoln may have only been perceived.
He purposely surrounded himself with people who disagreed with his politics because he didn't want a bunch of yes men around him. He became president at the most difficult time of our country, but his persistence kept it together.
And also, something the modern generation hasn't experienced, he was a basically honest man.
His legacy has stood the test of time.

Lincoln has only the good things he did reported in text books so that is what schoolchildren learn. The false reasons for the civil war. But yes, I think history will show what Bush did to keep us safe. It's hard to report on what DIDN'T happen.

Because he was in charge when we won the civil war. Winners write the history books.

Abraham Lincoln was thought of as a great president because he put his moral beliefs aside to strengthen our union.

I have no idea. Some people think it is because he freed the slaves, truth is he only freed them to kill the south. Slaves kept the economy going in the south. Just like machines, take away all the machines and see how quick a country will fail. He wanted to cripple the south, he was no bleeding heart. Bush has been keeping us safe, been attacked since 9/11? He said he would take the war off our shores and he did. Now everybodys fear is what will happen under Obama. They will test him dearly, because he appears weak. And they hate him just as much as they did Bush, Clinton and those before him. He is an American, suppose to be a Christian, and will be President. There will be no peace with them with Obama in office.

Lincoln kept the country together. I took years for the truth to be seen about him.

Yes. Bush will be well thought of when BDS subsides and historians see things clearly.

He had a low approval rating due to the war...

In war time you are bound to have a vast amount of people who disagree.

    War is unpopular.
