    The History Boys

    Out on DVD next week.

very good film, though i know a lot of people say it works far better onstage.

    Has anyone seen both versions?

I saw it at the NT first, and I have to say I preferred the stage version.

Am I right in thinking it's exactly the same cast in both?

It was a different cast when I saw it on stage in Newcastle. After reading the reviews, I thought the film was going to be a real disappointment, but I enjoyed it. I think some of the humour is lost in the film - a couple of times they had to pause in the theatre until we controlled our laughter, but in the cinema most of the people around me were obviously enjoying it.

Some great dialogue, and I loved the boy's classic remark " history is just one ....... thing after another".

    Do watch it.

I've seen both. Feel really lucky to have seen the full original cast on Broadway last year - amazing. Love the film just as much as the play but it's a shame some scenes/lines were cut but understand why they were. Also the ending of the film doesn't work as well as the play ending

I loved it, but I don't like the ending very much - I prefer the play ending, even though I've only read it and not seen it. Would love to see the play in the future, though, and will definitely be buying the DVD.
