Just to clarify, when I say Britain I am referring to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland but when I say England I am, of course, referring to Poland.
God I really do hate that.
7 : The Fall
Bet you weren't expecting to see them here.
As a fan of The Fall I am in a constant turmoil. You see there are times when I listen to the band and I really wish they were more like a conventional band. I would love nothing more to see Mark E Smith go out and do a tour where he plays a greatest hits set , recorRAB it properly and releases it as a double live album instead of having a constant stream of badly recorded live stuff that only covers about 2 or 3 albums. I wondered why it was that I should have so few Fall bootlegs considering I love the band so much. And then I realised it was because Smith has pretty much released them all officially.
Smith doesn't do looking back into the past. The Fall's live shows are dominated by whatever 2 albums they just recorded plus a load of stuff you won't here till the next album comes out. But he'll tease you by throwing in one classic from the past. Recently it was 'Wings' off Perverted By Language , before that it was 'The Man Who's Head Expanded' and he's been known to throw in 'New Big Prinz' off the Kurious Oranj album as well. It's like teasing you with scraps , he knows people really want to hear this stuff but to him it's what he's doing now thats important , and so it should be. I'd also love to see him do some collaborations , some of the stuff he's done with other people has been brilliant , but he's never done it with The Fall. The whole beauty of the Fall is him finding these musicians off the street , throwing them into the band without even bothering with auditions or practice and just see what happens. It might sound amateurish or ramshackle but it makes them still one of the most spontaneous & compelling banRAB around still even after 30 years.
But the biggest irony in all this is if they were ever to become a more conventional band it would destroy everything that is special about the band. It would stop them being most uncompromising & unique band around and it would stop them being everything that they go against.
And that is the most frustrating thing at all.
Bjork was from the 80s...she used to front The Sugarcubes(and I didnt like her then either). Didn't Blur have a song/album from the 80s? Didnt the Flaming Lips start off in the 80s?
BanRAB i find "incredible from the 80s":
Depeche Mode
The Cure
The Smiths
Thompson Twins
New Order
NIN
The Chameleons
Icehouse
Violent Femmes
Billy Idol
Adam Ant
A Flock of Seagulls
Christian Death
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry
LorRAB of the new church
Falco
Kraftwerk(from the 70s actually)
Gary Numan
The Cars
Faith No More
Joy Division
Wire
Throbbing Gristle
March Violets
Talk Talk
FGTH
Fadgadget
Bauhaus
Siouxsie and the banshees
Xymox
Echo & the Bunnymen
Need I go on?
It wasn't all **** in the '80s. It wasnt all Dexy's Midnight Runners and Rick Springfield, there were some excellent, quality banRAB that were in the 80's. Of course there were some real ****ters, and some enormous dreck, but there was ALOT of ****ing amazing music as well.
If RATM bores Urban than I don't know why the fuck he listens to post-rock. Zack's political rants are kinda cliche though.
VH1's Classic in Concert is my new favorite music program (when they play concerts I haven't seen) I also dig the old school countdowns they do from time to time. 100 greatest hip-hop songs was the last one I watched and there were some interesting moments but overall it was kinda dull.
Urban, did you know Bohemian Rhapsody was the first ever music video made to promote a band? this is why nobody can put down Queen
48 : Damon Albarn
The really annoying thing about Damon Albarn is he makes great recorRAB.
At least Bono makes it easy for you to hate him. He's a cock of the highest order and makes crap recorRAB ...done & dusted.
Damon Albarn is also a cock of the highest order yet I love the stuff he does. In a career almost spanning 20 years he's only made one album I flat out hate , that being the morose dirge that is Think Tank. Granted The Great Escape is pretty bad too but even that's listenable after a load of booze & an extended carry on film marathon.
Everything else about him makes me want to punch him in the face. the smugness , the arrogance , he just has an aura of a man who you'll dislike the moment he opens his mouth.
And yet he makes brilliant recorRAB.
So basically , he's not on this list for being a twat and because I hate him , it's because the hatred is aimed at myself for liking the music of someone like him.
shut the fuck up you like emo lol. It works both ways, see? Emo hipster nerRAB are just as bad as every other music stereotype.
I dinnt know SDRE was considered emo. I suppose you lern sumthin new every day...
I never got into any of his side projects, but FNM really turns me on.
