Agree with Reznorslave, very underrated guitarist.

God, I love John. I've had his recorRAB for years, but never really got into them until a month or so ago, and they're absolutely amazing. I will admit though, he is almost completely inaccessible (that's probably why it took me so long to get into him in the first place).
I don't think his playing is boring, just the whole mood of the music since like 2000 or so. Californication was a good album but I got tired of it quickly and haven't listened to it in like 5 years. I am not a fan of his solo stuff, but not an unfan either, I just haven't gotten heavily into it, I have been in like a two year Soul\Blues\Jazz Folk rock phase so guitar music is not at the top of my list. I would not diss the Chili Peppers I think they are among the top 50-60 banRAB ever, and John is a big part of why, but comparing him to Hendrix is probably a stretch. Start with Jimmy Page, Eddie Van Halen, Eric Clapton etc.
Hmmm, I downloaded Shadows Collide with People but wasn't completely impressed. It seemed to rely alot on basic acoustic guitar, which sounded a little bland and I was expecting something more experimental with added guitar wankery.
I think I might download one of his earlier albums and see what I make of that.
He's my favourite guitarist ever.
Indeed. I've been listening to Ataxia for about half a year now (probably longer), but it was quite a while before I managed to get their second album. It's pretty good but not as groundbreaking as their first. I really can't get enough of them.
Niandra Lades & Usually Just a T-Shirt is probably my fav Frusciante album... it's the real drugged up one.
I'm open to everything, but I prefer to listen the well crafted tunes first.
Frusciante's a better guitarist than all three of them IMO. And yeah, I can understand the Hendrix comparison. John does get a bit Hendrix-esque at times. Really...explosive.
He's one of my favourites anyway. Love his work with RHCP, love his solo albums (especially Niandra and To Record Only Water).
Does anyone know if his first recording were ever found? (they were lost in his first apartment)
I absolutely love John, my favorite of his albums are Curtains and Smile From the Streets You Hold-absolutely hated this the first time I heard, but now I can't get enough of it.
