Undertow's a damn fine album, not where I'd point a beginner though. I listened to Tool's discography in reverse order and I'm glad I did.

But yes, Undertow is definitely awesome and definitely does get overlooked:beer:

Carey isn't so overrated. He's actually a very good drummer and deserves a majority of the cred he gets. I wouldn't call him the best technically or anything, but he's part of their style in a huge way.

I love Danny Carey and I wouldn't for a second trash Tool's lyrics. Maybe in a few places, but overall - damn fine.

I wish Maynard could sing, though. Never been a huge fan of his voice.

You'd put Justin last? Aww... I love Justin's bass work since he joined Tool. I think he's an amazing bassist and he's utilised in the instrument in ways I'd never seen before. When I first started listening to Tool (when I was young and stupid) sometimes I'd often hear sounRAB and be like "What is that?!" and it turns out it's bass guitar.

I think I'd probably put Maynard last in terms of individual merit. Adam Jones and Danny Carey are amazing, so is Justin like I just mentioned, and Maynard is an amazing vocalist with a great presence but he seems to come off as a bit of a douche and he IS overrated by Tool fans.

Come to think of it, now that I've written all that, I think I still think of all merabers as equal contributors.

Oh and P.S. I'm officially seeing Tool in January, **** yeah!

That really doesn't mean jack**** considering Slipknot also won that award one year.

And when did an album being #1 on the billboard charts have any bearing on the quality of the music itself?

Not saying the albums suck (much), but nevertheless these are poor arguements.

If you can, start with Opiate. I think they're the kind of band you've gotta digest from the begin to end. The music progresses quite a bit from the time the first EP was dropped 'til 10,000 Days. For me, the most prominent aspect of this band is their public growth as musicians and a band, all of which you can witness in their discography.

I did not know about this.
Awesome. But yea, you're right, if they're just starting then it's going to be a while. We're used to that with Tool though.

    The Official Tool Thread

Most the time (especially where I live) ,when I see/hear Tool being recognized, it is because of how "****ing metal" they are when in all actuality, they are not that metal. Not only that, but those of us who rant on and on about the themed personal experiences Tool has incorporated into their music seem to forget where this band started out, how much they've progressed. Perhaps I didn't make it clear enough in my previous post, but I believe they are both overrated and underrated in different aspects, of course.

However, it is pushing 4:30 am over here, and if I stay up past 5am, I'm obliged to see the sun rise, so until my brain is recharged, Kate, I'm sure you'll find something to respond to in my post.
