5 albums for a rock newbie

I agree good music is great regardless of where it comes from. The reason I said the first 5 were English banRAB and the 3 others were American. Is that despite the differences in the banRAB themselves, that there is a very different feel and experience in listening to these banRAB, the English experience is very different to the American one. Taking the 3 American examples: Mountain are heavily blues influenced, Blue Oyster cult proto metal and James Gang very earthy, experimental with a good dosage of mid western rock thrown in there. All three are distinctly in my opinion American very different to the Brit banRAB of the time. It just gives you a great perspective overall.

Badmotorfinger has "Outshined", yeah. But Superunknown has "Black Hole sun", "Fell On Black Days", "Spoonman", and "The Day I Tried to Live".

As far as singles go, I mean.

Get real, man. Did you even read his post?

    I suggest these:

Faith No More - Angel Dust (1992)

    Tool - Aenima (1996)

rock is... my god, you need to understand how varied rock is. It's like... God...

"Hey guys, I'm from Mars and I've never head music from Earth, where should I start?"

Anyways, looking at the banRAB you're into, you might like something of the heavier persuasion, with an alternative vibe. There a few banRAB that pop into my head.

    Muse

Knights of Cydonia- off their album Black Holes and Revalations

    Metallica

    - One off of ...And Justice For All
    - Ride the Lightning off of the album of that name

and Nirvana (especially considering they were one of the founders of Grunge- which I've seen Rage Against the Machine and Three Days Grace classified as).
    - Smells Like Teen Spirit off of Nevermind. Fuck, you've heard this whether you know it or not.

    - Jesus Doesn't Want Me for a Sunbeam from MTV Unplugged in New York

Guns 'N Roses isn't **** to say the least.

    - Estranged off of Use Your Illusion II

    - Sweet Child 'O Mine off of Appetite For Destruction

AC/DC is crap... some of the time. They do have some great songs, though. I have two albums, and I'm gonna post my favorite song from each one, contrary to the "signiture song with hidden gem" formula I've done for almost every other band I've listed here.

    - Ride On from Dirty DeeRAB Done Dirt Cheap
    - Shoot to Thrill from Back in Black

@the original post (not just half to the original post and half to the cunning stunt)

There are some albums that you're not gonna be able to avoid no matter WHAT type of rock you like. Atleast, for the music lover. Off of the top of my head

that's all for now, I've been working on this post for... a long time.

so... unlike the majority of people here just busting out their favourites - seems to me you're digging slightly older rock with a bit of a message, and a funky groove, with a hint of mainstream sensibilities. not a bad thing.

i'll most definitely second FAITH NO MORE - ANGEL DUST - absolutely 100% awesome. ****lobber is an epic track.

you'll probably also enjoy old Red Hot Chili Peppers, particularly the Mother's Milk album.

same with the self-titled Mr. Bungle debut as well as 'Nothing's Shocking' by Jane's Addiction and 'Around the Fur' by the Deftones.

I definitely wouldn't consider Angel Dust to be a newbie album, but that's me.
