Which one should I buy? Which one maintenance is cheaper?
The Dodge is boring with a cheap Chrysler interior
The Mazda is much nicer, more unique vehicle.
And it's Motor Trend SUV of the Year.
If your only problem is maintenance, buy the mazda and dont even blink twice at the Journey. Mazda doesnt need to clean up for years of poor quality cars with a lifetime powertrain warranty. Price wise the two are not in the same class whatsoever. The most expensive journey ends where the CX-9 sport begins(A fully loaded CX-9 is north of 40K). If you need a reliable vehicle thats alot of fun to drive, economical, luxurious, and Motortrends SUV of the year over 11 competitors, the CX-9 is your choice. If you need a "tough looking loaded up minivan" for under 30K, then you may want to go check out the Journey.
The Mazda is bigger, but it has not been the most reliable car on the market. Not to mention the fact that this car loves gas. I would honestly give the Journey a shot. It looks really nice, it has tons of trendy features such as the storage compartments under the rear seats. It has received the best fuel economy in its class.
Mazda CX-9 won the Motor Trend SUV of the year in 2008.
The Dodge Journey is the attempt by Dodge to remain 'contemporary' by easing out of the mini-van segment (like every other manufacturer).
The maintenance will be comparable. The CX-9 has more cargo room and is more comfortable for passengers.
Plus, I think it is better looking.
Dodge will try to lure you in with a "longer" warranty, but the fact remains that the Mazda rates MUCH higher in both consumer satisfaction, editors' ratings, and reliability based on brand name.
Plus, when it comes time to trade or sell that puppy, the Mazda's gonna carry MUCH more weight when it comes to resale. Dodge's sink like a stone once driven off the lot.
Mazda CX-9
The drive alone should push you toward the Mazda. Look at other things though, Mazda has better reliablility and resale value for one thing. The Journey's not a bad vehicle, but the Mazda is a far superior product! Just ask Motor Trend magazine, they named it SUV of the year.
