isnt the dodge challenger just a big fat copy of the mustang??

It's a copy in the sense that it is a recreation of an American muscle car, from back in the times when they were cool and people actually noticed them.
Now when you see people driving these "Retro Muscle" cars, they're almost all automotic, and driven by middle aged women. So yes, I would consider it is a copy of the mustang.
