Hot flashes are the result of a hormonal change in a woman's body. It's a short period of a few seconds to a minute or so where, no matter how cool the temperature might be, it feels like someone opened a hot oven door inside you. You sweat during them, sometimes getting a slight flush to your skin. I used to be cold all the time; since my hysterectomy, I'm always warm. Whereas most women dislike hot flashed, I enjoy them. But if you're a teen getting them, that could mean a serious hormone deficiency, at which point you should be checked by a doctor.
