Thread: auto accident after surgery

i was in an auto accident 12 days after my L4-5 S1 bak cage with fusion in may of 07 . When i woke up from surgery the pain from the pinched nurve in my right leg was gone. On June 11th 07 was in accident and right leg nurve pain was back. When they got me out of the car and went to lay me on the stretcher it felt as if someone was pulling on my legs and trying to rip me in half(the worst pain i had ever felt) i could not lay flat i had to have my leg elevated sence i have not been able to lie flat on my back. In aug of 07 had another MRI done and dr. told me my cage was fine . Sence the accident i have been in so much pain. Right leg nurve pain is back i have pain in my thigh and buttox i have pain in my right side that gos around to my abb. my back pain is worst then befor. I have a shocking sensations in my right leg below the knee off and on through the day . When i use the bathroom i get a pain in the bottom of my right foot. I have trouble sitting to long standing to lone walking and sleeping at night i wake up on a avge of 4-7 time and have to get up and move around becouse of pain. anyone elce have these problums after surgery . I gess im wondering if its normal or if it is from auto accident ? Is it passible to reherniat the disk? could it be a level above or below? should i ask for another MRI ? My auto inc say its all prexsising(not spelled right sorry) and quit paying for anything sence oct 07 i do have a lawer but dont seem to be getting anywheres with that. Iv lost my job and i have not been able to work sence or do much of anything. Anyone elce have surgery and feal worst ? please let me know your thoughts. thanks

I am sorry you find yourself trying to recover from an accident in addition to your surgery.

Have you been back to the doctor who performed your back surgery? I couldn't tell who did the MRI in August. Were you hospitalized after the accident? Was there any treatment at that point?

Everyone recovers differently from a similar surgery, so it is hard to really answer your questions. I imagine it would have been difficult to lie flat on your back a couple weeks after surgery. I had a similar surgery in Jan. and I still get some pain sensation when I have to lie on my back.

You obviously are having pain that sounRAB like it is coming from a compressed nerve root. You could reherniate a disc; you could have problems at a level above; you could be having SI joint problems. I think you should look up the spinal specialist that did your surgery, have a new MRI and see what he recommenRAB.

The dr. who did my surgery is the one who reviewed my MRI he said the cage was fine .
I was not hospitalized form my auto accident. And no other test were done.
All i know is i was fealing good after surgery (as good as u could feal i gess after have back surgery.) Untill the accident i had some pain from recovering but nothing like i did fallowing the accident. The nerve pain was back that day and has just gotton worst over time.

Dr said it could me scar dammage that could be causing my pain. But would that pain start only 12 days after surgery? And be that intence.

I gess im wondering if anyone out there has had the nerve pain still there or it come back shortly after surgery?
