I have a '86 F-350 with a 460 engine w/electric(stock) fuel pump, and Holley 4160 carb. This weekend I went to start it up, let it run for a few seconds, then it died. I tried to start it again, then I noticed a strong gas smell, opened the hood and the carb was overflowing with gas (key in off position)! I had to pull the battery cable to shut off the electric fuel pump!
I thought it maybe the fuel pump relay, so I replaced that, but the fuel pump still will not shut off! What could cause this????
The previous owner installed a toggle switch in the cab to turn on the fuel pump (I guess to use when when towing uphill??), but I also disconnected that when it was overflowing.
I googled this problem and one suggestion was to check the oil sending switch, would that have anything to do with the fuel pump?
