The one thing I have to say about the whole inconsistant storyline thing is that the whole Marvel univerise is such a sprawling out of control ball that they could create as many inconsistancies as they wanted and it wouldn't mean anything.
If you thought the plot was confusing or jumbled, the movie was about humans creating and using a drug to contain the mutant gene thing. If you couldn't follow that, I don't reccommend doing anything that requires too much thought.
The movie appeared (to me, at least) to be constructed as an end to a trilogy, but with just enough bs at the end to open up the possibility of a sequel, but wouldn't destory the trilogy if they didn't make another (The whole Xavier not being dead, and Magneto either not fully losing his powers, or regaining them, meaning every other mutant would probably do so as well).
... no I didn't read the comics, and really am not interested in picking up hundreds of 25 page flip books, but I think the ideas they use and some of the plot lines they create are pretty good.
