As the economy tanks, more women are turning to surrogacy to make some extra cash. CBS talked to several surrogate moms in an article yesterday, but one stands out:
Gina Scanlon is a 42-year-old portrait painter and mom of three, who's been a surrogate once before. She's beginning the process a second time "in part because her husband Brian needs expensive surgery." Surrogacy can be a great thing for families (like the proud dads pictured with Scanlon above), and some women look on it as a job like any other. Still, it's a little disturbing that we live in a country where a woman has to carry someone else's baby to pay for her husband's medical care. You're going to fix this, right Barack? [CBS]
