The server was down for several hours today. I had several posts stuck in
limbo which have now belatedly appeared. So if they seem out of synch you
    know why.

Here I recommended this server recently so of course it goes down. Very
unusual for them to go down like this though. There's no indication as to
why on their website but the bandwidth rate graph on their server status
page shows no activity for about six hours.

Hmmm... Mine has been working fine. *Knock wood* But some time back it was
always going down in the middle of the night. Which is when I am usually on
    here.

Same here, however the server: news.eternal-september.org, no longer works.
I changed it to: uucp.eternal-september.org. And now it works.

Interesting. Maybe it has to do with accessing the server with a mobile
device. On conventional news clients news.eternal-september works fine,
provided you have the correct port setting.

However, like Nunya stated, I am using a mobile device to send this
    message.

That was March 23rd, LAST YEAR.

The UUCP host machine name should only apply to machines that relay
articles to each other (when news servers talk to other news servers
to exchange articles). It's not for client connections such as those
of us reading RFC and other groups.

But it's possible that uucp.* is just a synonym for another client
accessible computer. You should not have to (nor should you) use
uucp.* as your NNTP server. You should switch it to one of the other
servers mentioned on that page. The fact that you got it to work was
    just co-incidence.

I just switched it back to "news." with all the old settings before that
system was down... It still failed to read or post messages today. After I
switched it back to "uucp" it started working again. I have tried the other
nntp and nntps servers and they did not work either. Perhaps each server
has it own separate password and id settings. However, I can post now at no
cost. If it goes down again I will probably will switch to so far it seems
    to work again.

Your username and password are the same across all their servers. Your news
client shows as NewsTap 3.2 (IPad). I'm not familiar with it. But if you are
using the nntp or nntps settings you need to have the server's account
config set to the correct port number as specified on the settings page, and
SSL checked in your config if using nntps. What nntp server and port number
is set in the account config when you switch back?

I suspect either it has something to do with your Ipad client compatability
or something isn't right in the account config on your end.

I have no idea why the uucp works.
