what do you think of this short essay on the purpose of art?

could someone look at the grammer and structure of this essay? Leave a comment on what you like or dislike. I know it is a little dry, but I'm not too concerned about that. I am more interested in the correctness of my writing. Thanks in advance =DWhat Is The Purpose Of Art, Why Make It?If you asked someone what is most beneficial to society, you would get a myriad of answers. Probably some common responses would be some objective practices like math, chemistry, biology, and physics to name a few. Although these subjects undoubtedly have a place and function in the world we live, we must not overlook one of the most fundamental components of our society, the arts. Art serves many functions for society.Art is a difficult word to define, and the correct definition of art depends upon whom you ask. If you were to ask 100 people what exactly art is, you would likely get 100 different answers. The definition of art is very distant from concrete, and is subjective to individual who made the definition. For the scope of the text and the purpose of this paper the least ambiguous and best fitting definition of art will be the aesthetic arrangement of objects of pictorial form for function or enjoyment. Art is a key element of education; trying to explain even simple concepts would be much more difficult without art as an educational aid. Anyone with a basic education has been exposed to numerous illustrations in textbooks. Without art representing anatomy to medical students, medical professors would have a much more difficult time trying to teach medicine. Art helps teachers represent unseeable, intangible objects like distant planets and small molecules.Art assists in communications of everyday life. Without drawn blueprints to communicate ideas, engineers would need to rely on forms of communication more susceptible to misinterpretation like speech and writing. As exemplified by the Victory Naram-Sin carving, art can be used by some people to convey a political message. Furthermore, art can be used to communicate cultural values. The advertisements that fill magazines, newspapers, and television screens all communicate something about the culture in which we all live.As in the case of education and communication, art can be used to do work, but probably the most common use of art is its use as a form of expression. Art made by an individual does not necessarily have to concern anyone else; art can be made purely for the self. Some people may create art to relieve stress, or they may create art after a rough day to release tension. For other people art can be a method by which they learn about themselves. An artist can find bits an pieces of their own personality manifest themselves in a piece of art, and by seeing the work learn more of themselves. Beyond stress relief and self-knowledge comes enjoyment. Art can have no objective other than a fun way to pass the time. Many people of all ages, races, and gender create art for the simple pleasure of the activity. All people at some point in their lives use or create art in some form, and its value to society is beyond measure. Art can be used as an aid in educating others, and art can be used as a handy way to communicate ideas when speech and writing will just not manage. Art is probably most recognized as an avenue for expressing the self. No matter what uses of art are considered most important, it is hard to deny that society would not function as well without the arts.

"Probably some common responses would be some objective practices like math, chemistry, biology, and physics to name a few."I wouldn't start the sentence with Probably. Try just taking it out, "Some common responses might be objective practices like math, chemistry, biology and physics." End sentence there. "to name a few" make the statement too wordy."Art serves many functions for society." This is your topic sentence, you will want to name what functions you are going to discuss. You need to says "Art serves many function for society, from education and communication to expression." Or something that sums up the points you are going to make about art in the paper."The definition of art is very distant from concrete, and is subjective to individual who made the definition."Try "The definition of art is far from concrete..." and then "subjective to the individual..." You need the word the before individual."For the scope of the text and the purpose of this paper the least ambiguous and best fitting definition of art will be the aesthetic arrangement of objects of pictorial form for function or enjoyment." That sentence is very wordy. Try "For the scope of this text, the best fitting definition of art is the aesthetic......""Some people may create art to relieve stress, or they may create art after a rough day to release tension" Although the wording is different stress and tension kind of follow the same idea. Pick one or the other, or find another reason to add to that sentence. It's repetitive right now."An artist can find bits an pieces of their own personality manifest themselves in a piece of art, and by seeing the work learn more of themselves." It should read "bits and pieces". And put "manifest through a piece of art..."
