How can Europe with all the logic of human kind be considered as a Continent?

The geographic definition of a continent is: "Continents are understood to be large, continuous, discrete masses of land, ideally separated by expanses of water."Europe's claim to continent-hood is that it is seperated from Asia by sea, rivers and mountains. . . blah, blah, blah.OK. . .but India is seperated from Asia by the Himalayas, the king of mountains - to the point you might as well consider it harsher than a body of water. . .yet India is only a "Sub-continent"???If India is a "Sub-continent," how can Europe dare claim to be a continent? It should be a sub-sub-continent.Then there some crap about plates, Europe and Asia are the same and one plate, but India is is on it's own plate. The idea is Europe being it's own continent is due to the influence education instituted post colonialism, the Europeans had a Napolean complex and want to instill that they are their own continent. They are not their own continent, they are part of the Asian continent.Europe is to a continent as Pluto was once a planet.

So really what is your question. Your definition says "ideally separated by expanses of water".Plus how many countries does India have? And how many countries does Europe have? Nice rant though.

How can Australia, with all the logic of human kind be considered the largest island? All land on Earth is surrounded by water.P.S. Screw those astronomers! Pluto is still a planet in my book.

You don't run from a pile of crap because it's scary. You run from it because it's dirty.I spend most of the time fighting stupid people than smart ones. Don't waste your energy fighting their stupidity. Let them call it a Golden Palace. For your own sake, don't spend too much energy on others' stupidity. You'd be fighting all your life. One day, there may be a guy who will tell you 2 + 2 = 22.Focus on the big problems.

In a geographic sense, Europe should have been a part of Asia and even if the Bosporus strait divides the two, Europe is well connected by land to Asia through Eastern Europe & Russia. Also, Russia itself, though a single landmass, was divided to a European & an Asian part! But then United Kingdom is an island but considered as a part of Europe! Also, number of nations inside is not a factor to declare a land mass as a continent. I am not sure if Earth's moving Plates have anything with deciding a landmass as continent. Otherwise, only European supremacy over others, especially over Asians as they had earlier colonised most of Asia and also because of their Racist feelings, Europe might have been declared as a continent. Though there is a lot of stuff in your question, I think most in the westwill pooh pooh it because they think they are still superior. But for consoling you, I can say one thing... just go through the answers the Europeans & Americans write to questions in Yahoo! Answers... you will know that most of them do not have even the basic general knowledge about the world or its politics or on most of other subjects as much as Asians... but thinking superior is a trait which no one can cure.

Europe is physically a part of the continent of Eurasia. It is different than the rest of the continent culturally but that does not make it a continent.
