Custom Sms Tone

Hi Guys,

Anyone managed to get Custom SMS tones working on the HTC Magic yet ( without app from the market ?)

I have tried it all so far and cant get it to work ..

i've been bitching about this for a looonngg time but i found it
and by accident!!


ok, so when you have the Phone or SD card hooked up to the computer

? go down to the media folder

? open it and you'll see audio

?click on audio and you'll see notifications and ringtones

?click on notifications and you can drag any noise you want

keep in mind that i have a mac so it may be different for PC users but i dont know it worked perfectly for me

Just got a G1 yesterday and this was the only ONLY thing online on google that i could find that had any relevance to custom SMS tones

the phone is 1.5 w/ cupcake and all that good stuff.

I have tried EVERYTHING on this thread (except getting a 3rd party app from the store) to get a custom sms tone and nothing has worked. I've restarted the phone and reformatted the phone multiple times. to the point where my stomach is sick and i cannot for the life of me get custom sms tones. I have NOTIFICATIONS and ALARMS. Nothing in this thread has worked. Is it my phone? is it my sd card? is it the G1? is it T mobile? Is it god?

I would very much like some help. Please. PLEASE help, because i am literally two seconds away from returning to t-mobile, returning the phone refunding my new subscription and going to verizion or att or somewhere else.

on my htc desire (android 2.1), its sd card>media>audio>alarms / notifications / ringtones (i had to create 2 of these folders)

Go to messages application, then press "menu" button and select Settings. Scroll down and press "Select sound". Hope it helps!

I would like to have a notification tone for texts but not email. Is this possible?
