I have a Panasonic CT-27D20 purchased in 2001 from Sears. Recently (2011) it has begun shutting off for a few minutes and then coming back on on its own. Some days it does this only a few times. Other days it does it all the time. If I give the TV a punch down at the bottom in the front, it will come back on sometimes but then go off again. It is NOT one of the newer flat tvs. It has depth.
Are the parts available at this time to TV repair people to fix it? One place told me they can't get the parts anymore for older TVs. Is this true? Another place acted like they just wanted me to buy one of their new TVs. I don't want to pay somebody to diagnose it and then they tell me they can't fix it because they don't have the part or that it will cost close to the amount of a new tv.
I really don't want to buy a new TV but will do so only if I have no choice.
Here's a pic of the TV:
