I read today that Cricket is slated to release a Kyocera Android based phone in July. This should be good news for the rest of us Droid users as I would suspect things like market apps should be easier to get working?

I hope they make a good otterbox case to hide Kyoceras logo LOL!
I got to mess around with one of the tester zios. I have to say that overall i was impressed.
the touchscreen was way better than i expected it is very responsive.
it is very light.
I have a eris that is on 2.1 and flashed with cains solution and did some comparing.
Pandora loaded up significantly faster on the zio.
i like the touchscreen on the zio better than the eris.
it also has a slightly bigger and id say brighter screen than the eris.
i was told the rate plan would be $60 idk if thats including tax or not.
overall id say its a giant leap for cricket and should make a lot of angry evoke owners happy.
I've seen images with both Kyocera and Sanyo on the phone. I don't know which one the phone is going to be shipping with. I've only seen Kyocera on video, but Sanyo on pictures, which could be photoshopped.
All good points. I'm interested to see what the "out the door" price will be for th Zio also. Funny how at the show the Kyocera Rep repeated about 100 times how they thought this phone should be sold for $170-$220 without contract. And then cricket pops up $300. :befuddled
I figure that maybe cricket will add a microsd card in the box and are charging more( add a $20 dollar card and add $60 to the price).
Or.
They they priced it at $300 so they can offer thier rebates/sales for $250 to drive sales(but are still selling it for what it should be anyway).
Either way you can't complain too much. The T-mobile 3G slide(no contact) is selling for $430(600 mhz processor). Same as Zio.(just with a with keyboard). Hell the regular tmobile 3G(528 mhz) is still $399.
But in the end it really comes down to how well the software on the Zio runs as to wether it is a good deal or not.
I thought the battery life would be good when I first read of it, but I haven't been hearing too many good things about it since the phone same out.
Is the battery enough to get you through most of the day? How quickly did it die on you?
I think there are different keyboard applications. You might want to try one of them. About the keyboard coming on when reading a text.. I don't know about that.. That must get annoying. I wouldn't want it to come up unless I hit reply. That's weird.
Do you think you could take a couple pictures and a short video outside when it's bright and nice out? It would be nice to see a sample. If you can't, that's understandable too.

I did *228 as well on my flashed Droid, but it didn't seem to do anything after it completed. Also tried it with only a Cricket PRL and no nv items written, it wouldn't complete the otap
BB came out ahead of schedule... so cheer up buckaroo
the info from an actual kyocera reps is this.
phone will be 249.99 and will require a mandatory "android plan" from cricket which will be 55 a month the new plans have all the "extra fees" built in you need only add your local tax. no more late fees no more activation fees just pay the price for the phone and first month bills for new customers, old customers get the same price as the new customers
phone will launch with 1.6 and will be upgraded in october to 2.1 no mention or time frame from 2.2 by the kyocera rep or how this would be done.
the phone he had was preproduction but a ton better than the when it was first seen in those youtube videos at ctia
if you have any other questions ask away guys :clapping:
No doubt. At least its a step up from the evoke.
