    A 2.3 kg ball tied to a string fixed to the ceiling is pulled to one side by a force to an angle of ? = 28.2??

    Just before the ball is released and allowed to swing back and forth, how large is the force that is holding the ball in position?

    Just before the ball is released and allowed to swing back and forth, what is the tension in the string?

    let tension in the string = T; force that is holding the ball in position =F

    assuming ? = 28.2? with the vertical
    vertically,
    mg = T cos 28.2
    T = 2.3 * 9.81 / cos 28.2
    answer in N
    substitute T into below equation,
    horizontally,
    F = T sin 28.2
    answer in N
