I actually prefer their coffee to somewhere like Costa. And it is always a nice treat to have one, especially the Toffee Nut Latte at Christmas or a Strawberries and Cream Frappacino in the Summer.

Their free coffee was this morning wasn't it? I always feel uncomfortable when someone I don't know is that familiar with me they use my name, it's a bit American if you ask me.
Er...in Starbucks...?
+1, its wholely unneccessary imo, similar to the kind of uncomfortable feeling i get when talking to the person cutting my hair, i wish they'd just stay quiet
I think people are looking at this the wrong way - surely it's better as they don't just go "I have a Latte here?" and 20 people rush forward for it. If they can say "I have a Latte here for Steve" surely that's easier? I suppose the alternative is give order nurabers?
Just some big creepy globalist corporation pretending a. to be local b. give a stuff about their customers.
If i want to be on first name terms with a shop and its staff then i frequent local independent retailers, who really do care about your ongoing custom and the products and service they provide.
Why not just wait at the front while they make it, like every other food/beverage establishment?
Where do you wait?
usually, when you order at the till, there is a side bit at the counter, where you get your drink, so I don't think mixed up orders was that big an issue
Its a pain. I Will use Tom. As they won't be able to spell or pronounce my name correctly without me repeating myself at least 2 times.
I think if I have to go along with this whenever I pop in and have to do this, I might just give Yoda as my name
