Maybe China is doing better then and welfare recipients can get better junk at WalMart. There has to be a bright side to us falling on the sword and running manufacturing out of the country.
Lower greenhouse gas emissions coming from the US?
But on the down side, it just means that the emissions will increase in China, and be much worse in the long run, because they have less regulation, and since it's "GLOBAL" warming, we will actually fuck up the planet worse by moving manufacturing jobs to China.
I don't see us being able to fix this country without industry here. Raise tarrifs on imports and give companies an incentive to build here. I really don't care if the cost of some gooRAB go up or not. Let's get our people working, protect our borders (which protects jobs as well), and stop making gas out of an important food item.
Without low-skilled manufacturing jobs the welfare crew will keep growing.
Not gonna happen tho.
Protectionist policies in this economy is sure to be a winner.
obviously it's because of the census from last year, right futuramakaren?
alright, time for you to log out and leave the economic discussion to people that have taken even a SINGLE class in the subject, because what you're describing would pretty much guarantee the collapse of our economy.
So, cheap imports and growing welfare state is where we are doomed to go? You have families trying to live off two minimum wage jobs and they can't as those jobs were never meant to be there for primary wage earners. We used to have large-scale manufacturing jobs which paid decent wages for those with low skills. What opportunities do "those people" have today? Not everyone can work IT or financial.
I'm not saying we decimate import/exports either, simply make things a bit more even or give corporations reason to expand here and not ship jobs overseas.
