I want to buy an unlocked phone and replace my Verizon cell phone?

1. If I buy an unlocked smart phone from Amazon, and activate it for Verizon, do I have to pay the extra $30 data plan per month?

2. What types of unlocked phones can I get to activate with Verizon?
