Did they have Downes Syndrome people in ancient times?

If so, how come I have never seen one in an ancient epic ?
And I have seen well over 100 films set in ancient times.
Were they killed at birth perhaps ?
Correct mudbug, it takes years to surface, so maybe DS is a modern genetic problem ?
At least a higher percentage of births these days than in ancient times.
I was reading that in acient times, well prehistoric times anyway, they didn't even have people with type A blood.

In Mexico (or may be the Inca Empire, I forgot), there have been statues found that seem to represent people with Downs. It isn't like only in recent history are people born with an extra chromosome 21 and you can't just rely on movies for all your history knowledge :/. May be they've just been hidden away and shunned.
