Is there any particular reason why CGI animation has almost entirely replaced hand-drawn?

ESPECIALLY in movies? Is it cheaper/easier to make than other types of animation? Or do they think people are more likely to see movies, etc in it?
Just curious (although I do wish there were more non-computer animation films these days).
