AUBURN, Alabama -- Desmonte Leonard, the man accused of shooting six people in Auburn last week, will be arraigned at the Lee County Detention Facility in Opelika on Thursday. He turned himself in to the U.S. Marshals and FBI on Tuesday night and is in a Montgomery jail.
He's been charged with three counts of capital murder and two counts of first-degree assault. Another assault charge will be added later. Auburn police uses the Lee County Detention Facility as its jail.
Leonard is accused of shooting and killing former Auburn football players Ed Christian and Ladarious Phillips and Auburn resident Demonte Pitts. He is accused of wounding three others.
There will be a candlelight vigil to remember the victims on the lawn of Samford Hall on the Auburn University campus at 8 p.m. Thursday.
The funeral services for Phillips are set for 1 p.m. Friday at the Handley High School gymnasium in Roanoke. The services for Pitts are set for 1 p.m. Friday at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Loachapoka. The services for Christian will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at J.E. Mathis Municipal Auditorium in Valdosta, Ga.
