I'm a High School French teacher. I work really hard to get my students interested in French.

I never majored in Teaching, so I don't know what is the name of this:

-I notice students like it or not, realize they may need Spanish here in the USA, so they give Spanish a chance.
-I notice people learning English as a second language, realize they will need English, so they try to learn English even if they don't like the language.

When it comes to French, I notice a lot of my students feel they are never going to need it. I think a lot of them think they are never going to need it for a job interview. They realize they may need Spanish, but not French. A lot of them have no interest in ever visiting France either.

Is there a pedagogy term or paradigm which talks about students not believing something they are learning will be useful in the future?
