    Underneath the ignition side cover, there are timing markings.

    On the cam chain sprockets, underneath the cam side covers are timing markings.

    You will need to pull the spark plugs, so you can turn the engine over easily by hand. You should use a dial indicator in the cylinder, but you can make due with a wooden dowel rod in the spark plug hole.

    Turn the engine over slowly from the ignition side. When the timing marks on the magneto plate line up, look at the cam markings. They should all be on the TDC mark and the (#1)piston should be at TDC. If all of the markings are in line and the piston is not at TDC, your engine has jumped timing.
