Is an injunction used to stop something from happening?

can it be used against a business?

Yes. To prevent irreparable harm and a very good liklihood of prevailing in the end. A very high standard to prove to the court. Not cheap.

Injunctions are rarely issued without really strong reasons.

You have to prove that they are likely breaking the law and that if an injunction is not issued, you will suffer significant harm.
