Thesaurus help: another word for "becoming" in this context?

He is spinning with arms wide open, his jacket (becoming) his cape, and he is falling, tumbling, rolling on the green grass.

For the "becoming" word-his jacket is not literally becoming a cape. Need help in describing this action (jacket flying as he spins).

Does the metaphor "green carpet" make sense when describing grass?

thanks all. Definitely will appreciate any further ideas on the sentence.
jelesais... - that word is PERFECT. thanks!

Other answerers: i understand the scenery point now (didnt realise this before), thankyou!

Try "his jacket enwrapping him as a cape..." and yes, "carpet" can be used, but how about "verdant carpet?"

    Transforming?

Just within this one sentence the metaphor does not really work...it could be interpreted quite literally - somebody jumping off an office chair on to a green carpet?!

However, I assume that there is more scene setting before hand - so yes, it should work!

"...his jacket turning into a cape....." "...his jacket acting like a cape...." "flying out like a cape"

"Green carpet" on its own might be confusing, unless you have strongly mentioned green grass in the previous sentence or two, or at least that we know the general setting of verdant outdoors.
