We recently applied to purchase our rented home with my father the main tenant and me his son as a qualifying relative. My dad is 64 in july and i am 38. The trouble is when we went to see the mortgage advisor yesterday, he said my dad cannot get a mortgage because he currently does not work. I asked if i could take the mortgage out in my name to which he replied no because the discount for the house is in my dads name not mine. I can prove ive been living at the address for more than 3 years but have not been on the tenancy. The house valuation was ?115000 but, with my dads discount we would actually get the house for ?50600. If there any way around this as its so frustrating knowing that i can afford the mortgage yet because the discount is for my father they wont let us do it.
