The Supreme Court appears ready and willing to rip the heart out of the 1965 Voting Rights Act, if Wednesday's arguments before the court are any indication.
Section 5 of the act (that requires states with a history of voter suppression to get an OK from the feds before making changes in their voting laws) has the court's conservative bloc all hot and bothered. Based on Wednesday's session, the court's neanderthal faction believes all that racism and voter suppression stuff is behind us.
Apparently, they were comatose during the last presidential election.
