Who says that it would have to be entirely a one-payer system? There are many alternatives, cobbling together the current systems to include those not covered. It's childish to keep harping on an NHS-type system when that clearly won't work in the US.

Government run health care is not being proposed by the Obama Administration, so your question has no real basis in fact. Rather, government subsidized HEALTH INSURANCE plans are being proposed that would be used to pay private doctors and hospitals just like private insurance is utilized today. I know the right-wing blowhards on radio and TV like to confuse people and yell about socialist medicine, but that is simply a distortion and not at all what is being proposed.

    YES.

Dear God Yes. That's an ENOURMOUS net savings. Imagine how freed up our nations employers would be if they weren't footing the medical bills for their employees and employees families!

I would love it....unfortunately, Obama isn't offering that plan. We spend more than every other industrialized nation on health care. You would think we would be rated at the top, but we are in 37th for overall care...and 75th for specialized care. That isn't something I would be proud of.
On a side note, I notice you haven't been complaining for the past 7 years, while US taxpayers fully funded free, universal health care for ALL Iraqi and Afghan citizens.

No. They would do better lowering and controlling the cost of health care and medications.
