How do I work out how much food to cook for a party-is there a rule of thumb...

...per person and for children? It is winter. We will start late afternoon with dips cheese platters etc then move on to cob loaves with fillings then Roast Pork and gravy beef curry and rice spaghetti then a barbeque then dessert.Guests are bringing dessert and we will have birthday cake.
