Why do people tip less at Chinese restaurants?

I act just like all of the other waiters in American restaurants. Greet them, hold conversations, refill their drinks... Anything they need but why do they tip me, along with my co-workers so little? I also speak fluent English. Do people not know that we work on tips??!! Why????

I always tip $5 but I think people just assume since it's a buffet, their bill is less and they don't have to tip that much. I hate that though for you. More people should know that waiters/waitresses only get paid $2-3 per hour and that your tips are what you live off of. It would probably blow their minds that waiters checks every week are less than $50. I think there should be a class in school where people learn about tipping. Ugh. I feel you and hopefully it will get better.

I absolutely love Chinese food and I tip at least decently everywhere I go. I never give less than $5 and tend to give more.

I've never worked at a chinese restaurant so I've never noticed, or heard of this. I tip 20% no matter what type of food or ethnicity my server is. Buffet, dine in or take out.
