People's Lifestyle work at home company scam or legit?

There was an add in the local paper so I called in and the operator gave me her number and imformation in case I had any problems. It costs $44 for the infomation book which lists companies to which you can send in to get work from. The companies will send you products for you to assemble at home... Has anyone tried this??? Please don't answer unless you have experience with the company or one like it. I hope this isn't a scam.... my book is supposed to come in Tuesday... they SAY that the money is totally refundable if you are not happy... im not too sure!!
