Why do you think hip hop fans know little about their history?

Like if i talked to most people at my school about a tribe called quest, Curtis blow, Whodini, or even Rakim, they say that old sh!t is garbage. I noticed a lot of people don't know where or why hip hop started either that call themselves fans, why do you think its like that.
