    Why isn't thorium fast breeder reactors being discussed as a alternate power source?

    If we are going to go down the nuclear option for power generation wouldn't thorium be a better option as it has a radioactive half life that ia a lot less then uranium and is more abundant in Australia than uranium.

    Radiation's a bad word.

    People will blithely accept that hundreds or thousands of people might die every year from lung diseases they got from breathing the products of fossil fuel combustion. But the possibility that radiation *might* kill a few people, in the event of some unlikely emergencies, just scares the bejeesus out of em, as they say.
