With 300 million being the population of the US, losing a few people isn't a huge problem.

Yup. They do. And they also require MANDATORY training for all citizens yearly to know how to fire a weapon.

All citizens, I believe ages 18-49, must own a weapon in their household.

Healthcare, of course. All the military has been doing lately is making work for the offensive "defense" racket—er, industry, people like GHWB—by invading countries for the sake of invading them.

The US also spends more than any other country in the form of foreign aid. I wonder how many would cry foul if we were to cut that to pay for it.

Anyway, I prefer the government provide protection from outside forces, that's their job. I prefer them stay out of my medical business. I'm perfectly capable of handling that on my own. I also prefer not to have my taxes jacked up for a service I'd use but once a year, if that.

It's the government's job to protect it's citizen's militarily.
