    1. He was the spiritual leader of India
    2. He started the Indian Independence Movement

    8. He led nationwide campaigns against poverty, for women's rights, for ending untouchability, improving civil rights of Indians.
    9. His main campaign was to gain independence from the British empire.
    10. He led Indians in the Non-cooperation movement in 1922
    11. He protested the British-imposed salt tax with the 249 miles Dandi Salt March in 1930.
    12.He called for the British to Quit India in 1942.
    13. He was imprisoned for many years, on numerous occasions, in both South Africa and India.
    14. As a result of his efforts, the British promised to transfer the control of India to Indian people after end of WWII
    15. He caused India's independence from the British in 1945.
