When the team that has batten twice but has not scored more than the other team's first innings score, then it is called "win by an innings.
As info, each team has to bat twice, but if the losing team has not surpassed the single inning total, despite batting two times, and lost all the wickets, then it is called "win by an innings".
A team bats and does not make much runs -1st innings
Team B plays and makes a huge score - 1st innings
2nd innings, Team A plays again. Is out soon. The total of 1st and 2nd innings is less than what Team B made in 1st innings. No need for Team B to play another innings.
It is an innings defeat.
take an example if the match is between India and Australia and India bats first then if they score 600 runs and hen Australia gets all out in just 200 runs then if India wants to give follow on then they will put Australia again in to bat and if Australia gets out within 300 runs then India won by an innings by this way India win by an innings ......
