Don't know why you would need a tachometer. The only snag I can see is the computer. That's because I don't know anything about them. I drove my 97 Ranger for 7 years with the check engine light on. As far as the mechanical work, I am sure all parts are compatible.

    Lots of snags

1 Rear differential gear ratios different (auto v stick)
    2 Flywheel different
3 Trans Mounting brackets located different (have to drill holes in frame)
4 Brackets for clutch pedal must be installed (welding required)
5 Brake pedal must be relocated
6 Computer and wiring harness different (as you knew)
    7 Drive Shaft different
Steering Column no. Hole in floor yes

This is a major undertaking to accomplish even for an experienced Mechanic.

Question, Is other truck wrecked? If not swap motors and make other truck drivable

Easiest solution is Junk Yard Transmission with (most have available) 90 day warranty

Can you swap out an automatic transmission from a 94 ford ranger and put in a

manuel 5 speed? I have a 1994 ford ranger with the a4ld automatic transmission. its gone bad and needs rebuilding. i don'tt want to spend 2 grand on rebuilding my tranny. theres a 90 version of my truck with a 5 speed that matches my motor. i need to know if i would have to change the steering column, if there are any computer problems i would run into, or anything else i failed to mention. i know im going to have to make holes for the clutch and shifter and thats not a problem and i know it would be good to get a tach. but i need to know if i will hit any snags swaping my auto out for a 5 speed
