How long did the test sit before it went away? Did it even sit for the recommended time on the box?
Here's what *might* have happened. Pregnancy tests use a special kind of dye that is attracted to the chemical lines on the test stick if it comes in contact with certain hormones. The line you saw going in the wrong direction could have been the dye traveling across the test stick. The reason it disappeared is because when the urine and dye reached the end of the stick, none of the dye stuck to the line, meaning it was a negative. But this is just speculation, I don't know if that's actually what happened. Take another test, and do it first thing in the morning, as this is when the hormone concentration in your urine is the strongest. Set the test down and don't look at it until the recommended wait time in the instructions is over. This will give you an accurate result. Or you could just get a digital test and take all the guesswork out of it.
Remember, false negatives happen all the time. False positives are only possible if you are on fertility drugs that contain HCG.

if you could include pic it will be better, but as per your description, home pregnancy tests can give you a false neg but nit a false positive, so do another one on your first urine tomorrow

    good luck

I would suggest you take these two tests and then follow up with a doctor for a full physical check-up.

The first test is the lab urine test.

This test can detect HCG in the urine with an accuracy of about 95%- and as early as 20 days after conception. Unlike the home test, it is performed by a professional, who is more likely to do it correctly. (of course, labs have been known to make mistakes , too.) If you plan on taking the test, call the lab the day before and ask for instructions on collecting your urine. This test is sometimes the least expensive pregnancy test, but it is less reliable than a blood test.

Or you can take a blood test, this serum pregnancy test can detect pregnancy with 95%-plus accuracy as early as 8 to 10 days after conception, and with virtually 100% accuracy (barring lab error) six weeks after conception. Now that they are in common use, blood tests often cost no more than urine tests, and their accuracy renders the necessity of a retest less likely.
