Ducati monster on a track, does it ride well?

I am looking at a ducati 696 because I feel it is much easier to ride on a daily basis. However, how much am I giving up in performance? I would like to ride on the track with it and am not sure how well it will do. Has anyone had experience on this? My friends ride a R1, will I be able to keep up with them, if our skills are equal?

The Monster is not even the best bike in its class on the road, let alone on the track.

You would need the talent of Rossi to keep up with a " fast-ish " road rider, on the track with an R1.

Sorry... but the R1 will eat you for breakfast and still be hungry for more. Acceleration, Breaking and cornering all go to the R1. The Duc will still be a great bike but as for keeping up with The R1. forget it.
