'Parents Of Hanged Notts Girl Arrested'..... Did you think they were guilty when this...

...first hit the headlines? The parents of an eight-year-old girl found hanged in her bedroom at home have been arrested in connection with her death. Simon and Susan Moody were interviewed under caution immediately after finding Charlotte Avenall's body at their home in Mansfield last month. The young girl, who had severe learning disabilities, was discovered hanged in her bedroom on September 12. Mr Moody, 32, and his 24-year-old wife Susan have been arrested in connection with her death.

I did have my suspicions, I have to say.

From what I've read in the paper they've been arrested on suspicion of neglect rather than murder. The little girl was already known to the social services. She had been locked in her room for 15hrs prior to being discovered. Maybe the arrests are about that. It seems like another case where there the social services could have done better. Then again, so could the parents.

What I'm saying is, the hanging may have been accidental but the circumstances leading up to it were neglectful.

I did have suspicions but they have been arrested, not charged as yet and then of course it may go to court.

I hope they are not guilty and that it was a tragic accident.
How much more can the country take of parents being involved with the such things against children.

    *She was "hung" not "hanged".

    I think they did it.

    - Pepper.

Edit: No, it's definitely "hung" and not "hanged" - unless you're from the U.S. A human is "hung" and meat, such as an animal carcass, is "hanged". It's not my fault that you don't speak English.

I don't suppose either of you ladies have ever heard of "He was hung from the gallows."? *chuckles*

By the way it IS hanged and not hung.
I don't know if they did it or not - the jury will decide, but I did wonder how an 8 year old with learning difficulties would have known how to hang herself. Sadly accidents do happen though when kids put things around their necks - it's not the first time this has happened.

Pepper, the word is 'hanged', a chicken gets hung a human gets hanged.

Arrested isn't the same as charged or convicted.

here you go Pepper, how about the times, do they employee English duffers?

or will I need to contact Sophie Dent to convince you of your error?

I just read that the poor child was locked in her ''soiled bedroom' for 15 hours and had accidently throttled herself with the strap of a toy.

    Shame on them

"You shall be taken to a place of execution and hanged until dead"
you hear that line in any films?
But; i digress... i do find it suspicious that any 8 year old with severe learning difficulties could even grasp the concept of suicide, let alone overcome the mechanics of forming a ligature and using it.
I doubt even an 8 year old of average intelligence could achieve this. Could have just been a terrible accident though. Time will tell!

    Its hanged.

Hi Sapphire, at the time I thought it was incredible that an 8 year old could work out how to hang herself, as I had an 8 year old at the time, who is now 9 and wouldn't have a clue how to do that, thank the Lord!

So to answer, yes, I smelt a rat, or is that smelled? Perhaps Pepper can enlighten us!
