How large of an amplifier do i need for my 12" Kicker L5 square sub woofer?

the specs are
# Power range: 50-600 watts RMS (300 watts per voice coil)
# Peak power: 1,200 watts
# Frequency response: 20-100 Hz
# Sensitivity: 88.8 dB

i only have one of these

i have no idea what most of that means, but i dont know how large of an amp to purchase, the amount of watts on an amp greatly affects the price, all i want to do is purchase an amp with just enough power to put this thing to its full potential.

man u got the second best the best is L7 but for one L5 get bout a 1000 wat amp cheap is boss riot 1600 i got one on two 15s Q power and they shake the windows in my 96 suburban i payed used 79.00 for it try local pawn shops they have good deals any thing ova 1000 watts will but out bout 500 to 800 watts and bridge the speaker on the amp

I'm going to assume that your sub has dual 8 ohm voice coils, so run them in paralell and get an amp that pushes 600-650 watts RMS @ 4 ohms mono. I have a Rockford P500-1 pushing 2 12" JL W1-V2 and they souls great. Even though the amp is rated at 500w RMS, it's factory benched at 706w @ 4ohms mono. Don't buy any of these off brand amps that claim they push "800 watts". That's peak. The RMS is probably closer to 200w. Go to your local non big box stereo shop and they can tell you exactly what you need and what will match your sub the best. Also, for a quality amp, expect to pau around 75 cents to a dollar per RMS watt.
