.jar's on Symbian OS?

There are java files that work on phones, and can do cool things, and there is one in particular that seems to work on a LOT of phones, if not all, that are running Symbian. If I get a nokia, or sony ericsson, they will both run Symbian, so they should both be able to use the .jar? Right? I am not too sure of this, so correct me if you can. Thank you.
Yah, I know. But I also know that some applications that interface with, for example, bluetooth, may work on one phone that support Java, and not another. Apparently Symbian has a better Java runtime, so I think I know now. Thanks for the info.

jar files usually contain Java applications. If they are designed for phones (using Java subsets such as J2ME, MIDP) then they will work on the phones that supports them.

Symbian OS has nothing to so with them, except that the Symbian powered phones also support Java thus those Java apps are likely to work on Symbian phones too.

There are other phones, much more cheaper and therefore much more widely available, which do not support Symbian OS but do support Java games/applications. An example is the Nokia phones with Series 40 UI platform.
