I am going to fort leonardwood for basic and AIT for 88m (Motor Transport Operator) and was wondering if this is as dangerous a position as I have heard?

Whenever you go outside of the gate, you are raising your chances of being hurt in Iraq or Afghanistan. I did 88m work for two tours. On both times, every member of my unit came home in a seat rather than in a box. However, some other 88m units doing the same exactly missions received casualties. One unit in particular 5 KIA and 23 purple hearts. So, it all depends on them landmines waiting for you out there. Pray that they don't have your name written on em. Even though, some of the missions are risky, it turns out to be fun driving around pretty much everywhere. Remember that, a lot of them are stuck inside the wire for a year, like people who do finances, supply, cooks, legal etc... I think it is worth the risk rather than being confined in one environment for long. I say go for it.
