5.A car originally priced at $12,000 is sold at a 20% discount. Find the sale price.
1. find 33% of 120
- move the % 'over to the left two places, and turn it into a period (decimal point)'. Calculate your number times 0.33, and you'll get your answer
2. Find 125% of 42
- same approach;
3. What percent of 5.6 is 1.4?
set up the fraction "1.4 over 5.6' and divide. Take your answer, move the decimal two places to the right, and say 'percent'.
4. 15% of q is 9.75. What is q?
- for this one, you take "15 over 100 equals q over 9.75" (or, 15/100=q/9.75)
- now, multiply 9.75 times 15, and divide that answer by 100. The result is your answer
5.A car originally priced at $12,000 is sold at a 20% discount. Find the sale price.
a discount of 20% means that 80% of the price remains... take the 80%, and follow the advice given for number 1 above...
Hope this helps
